Interim Pastor Austin Maxwell, DDS

Reverend Doctor Austin Maxwell is an ordained minister at Resurrection Baptist Church, Silver Spring, MD where he serves as Interim Pastor. He also served as Resurrection’s Interim Pastor from 2003 through 2009 and for a short interval again during 2018-2019. He has been a member of RBC since 1995.

He accepted Jesus Christ as his personal savior in 1976 at Jones Memorial Baptist Church in Philadelphia, PA. He accepted his call to preach the gospel of Jesus Christ in 2003, giving his trial sermon and was licensed under the leadership of Rev. Don C. Franklin.

Rev. Maxwell has served as deacon and chairman of deacons at the Parris Island Gospel Fellowship under the leadership of Chaplain/Rev/Dr. Howard Marshall. He also served as deacon and chairman of deacons at Resurrection Baptist Church under the leadership of Rev. Leonard P. Massie, Jr. He has served as Youth Minister and Instructor for Adult Bible Studies directing the courses; Purpose Driven Life, 40 Days of Love (by Pastor Rick Warren), Experiencing Spiritual Breakthroughs, The Articles of Faith and The Missionary Journeys of Paul. His ordination was completed on June 29, 2014.

Reverend Maxwell has been married forty-six years to Kathryn. They have two children: Jenea (a Registered Nurse at the Bethesda Naval Hospital) and Justin (retired professional baseball player/currently a dentist) who is married to the former Loren Knight. They also have three grandchildren, Jaidon(15), Liana(14), and Jett(13).

Reverend Maxwell received his Bachelor of Science Degree from Kutztown State College in 1974 and completed Dental School at the Temple University in 1978. He entered the U.S. Navy as a dentist and retired after serving 24 years achieving rank of Captain (0-6). Some career highlights include Board Certification in Comprehensive General Dentistry, served as a Staff Instructor and Educator at the Naval Post-Graduate Dental School, Bethesda, MD; and dentist for two Presidents of the United States (W. J. Clinton and G.W. Bush). He made two deployments onboard the USS Kitty Hawk (CV-63) and overseas duty assignments in the Subic Bay, Republic of the Philippines and Yokosuka, Japan. Additional assignments included San Diego, CA and Parris Island, South Carolina. He was most recently employed as a Comprehensive Dentist at the Pentagon Tri-Service Dental Clinic, Alexandria, Virginia. He is currently retired.
